As per usual, longtime Grinders GM was very busy during the offseason. Davies is confident his Grinders squad has added some valuable pieces ahead of the UHL39 season.
"Our primary focus this offseason was to shore up our centre ice. We certainly feel we've done that by adding star centreman Nicklas Backstrom, plus adding a valuable 3rd line centre in Nick Bonino through free agency" Davies said. "We feel that Backstrom and Max Pacioretty will be a lethal scoring duo this season. We're also excited to have Backstrom and Bo Horvat be our top two centres for the foreseeable future. We also added some more offense to our lineup by adding Rickard Rakell up front and Kevin Shattenkirk on the backend. We are generally pleased with the status of our roster as we start a new season."
Davies continues to explore his options via free agency, looking to add more depth to the Grinders fourth line. Goaltending remains a bit of a question mark as UHL39 gets set to start - the squad will start the season with the veteran tandem of Henrik Lundqvist and Cam Talbot (added via free agency). An upgrade to the goaltending position may be required during the season should the veterans not be able to get the job done. "It's a position we will continue to assess on a week by week basis" Davies admitted.
The Grinders GM also feels that their prospect base is strong at this point in time. "We were excited to add two first round picks in scoring winger Tyson Foerster and fiesty centreman Ridly Greig, plus acquire d-man Antti Tuomisto in a trade. We expect more growth this season for prospects like Thomas Harley, Rasmus Kupari, Kristian Vesalainen, Logan Brown, Ian Mitchell and Calen Addison to name a few. We like where we're at."
